On September 22, 2020, President Xi Jinping delivered an important speech at the general debate of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly. China has proposed that it will increase its nationally determined contributions, adopt more effective policies and measures, strive to peak its carbon dioxide emissions by 2030, and strive to achieve carbon neutral by 2060. This powerful speech, in the global scope caused widespread attention. The meaning Ecological environment climate change special adviser, climate change and the sustainable development of the institute, tsinghua university, xie zhenhua, said: ‘Our country’s 2060 carbon neutral target, far beyond the ‘2 ℃ temperature control goal’ of the Paris agreement( 2065-2070 carbon neutral), it will be impossible for us to make the global carbon neutral time five to ten years in advance, moreover also play a key role in global climate governance. Professor He Jiankun, deputy director of the National Expert Committee on Climate Change and director of the Academic Committee of the Institute of Climate Change and Sustainable Development at Tsinghua University, said: ‘The carbon-neutral 2060 requires a near-zero emission by 2050 and a sustainable energy system with new and renewable energy as the mainstay. Achieving carbon neutrality by 2060 requires a huge transformation of the entire social and economic system, energy system, technology system and other aspects, and requires painstaking efforts. At the same time, the transformation will also bring multiple synergies for China, such as improving economic competitiveness, social development and environmental protection.’ In the view of Zhang Shuwei, director of the Draworld Environmental Research Center, China's efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060 means that after carbon emissions peak around 2030, it will need to continue to reduce emissions rapidly for 30 years, which will undoubtedly have strong implications for the transformation of energy, transportation, industry, construction and agriculture, and will have a huge signal for new investment.   The definition Carbon neutrality means that countries, enterprises, groups and individuals offset their own greenhouse gas emissions by planting trees or buying carbon credits such as CCER, so as to achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions. Under the background of global warming, carbon neutral has become an important measure for governments, enterprises, organizations and individuals to deal with climate change.   The path To achieve the goal of carbon neutrality by 2060, China should deepen and accelerate the revolution in energy and consumption, intensify the development of clean, sustainable and renewable energy sources such as wind power and solar power, and promote them to become the mainstay of the energy system, so that carbon emissions can peak earlier and control the peak at a relatively low level. The expert suggested that in the "difference" planning, more clear climate goals should be set up, limiting the use of traditional energy sources such as coal, make clear restrictions on the use of, accelerate the transformation of energy construction, as well as promote the governments at all levels, institutions, enterprises to actively explore technology, business, energy multiple long-term sustainable development route.   Countries In fact, more than 100 countries have proposed, or will soon propose, carbon-neutral targets. Among them, Suriname and Bhutan have achieved carbon neutral targets. Ten countries, including the UK, France, Germany, South Korea, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, New Zealand and Hungary, have included carbon neutrality in their legislation. Seventeen countries and regions, including China, the European Union, South Africa, Japan, Singapore and California, have incorporated carbon neutrality into their national strategies. More than 90 countries, including Italy, Canada, Mexico, the Netherlands, Colombia, Argentina, Belgium, Pakistan, Ethiopia, Libya and Monaco, are discussing carbon neutrality in their national strategies.   Enterprises In addition to national attention, many companies have included carbon neutrality or reducing carbon emissions in their strategic goals. Among them, Google, Evian, Gucci, Philips Lighting, Delta Air Lines and others have declared themselves carbon neutral. Apple, Siemens, IKEA, PWC, Unilever and Lego have proposed to go carbon neutral by 2030, and L 'Oreal has proposed to go carbon neutral by 2025 for all its factories. Dell has pledged to reduce its carbon emissions by 50 percent by 2030, Volkswagen to zero emissions in its cars by 2050, and Mercedes-Benz to go carbon neutral in its vehicles by 2039. Activities Green and low-carbon has now become the mainstream concept of large-scale activities. In June 2014, Carbonstop and the UNEP jointly issued the Guidelines and Actions for the Green Meeting, which provides a reference and standard for the implementation of the Green Meeting. In June 2019, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment officially promulgated the "Guidelines for the Implementation of Carbon in Large-scale Events (Trial)" to promote the practice of low-carbon concepts and promote the new trend of taking pride in low carbon. Events have a long history of carbon-neutral, including the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, which went carbon neutral. The Vancouver Winter Games are the first ever to be carbon neutral, with more than 7,000 athletes, coaches and officials also going carbon neutral in their travel. To do this, Vancouver relies on renewable hydropower for 90 percent of its electricity, the government has set the strictest green building standards for Olympic venues, the city's sport-utility vehicles and buses are mostly hydrogen-powered, and the city has made a big push for mass transit -- there's no spectator parking at the venues. During the Winter Olympics, then-mayor Robertson spearheaded the bike ride. China’s first carbon-neutral activity was in 2010. The 3rd China International Forum on Ecological Civilization and Green Competitiveness in 2010, the APEC in 2014, the Hangzhou Marathon in 2018 and 2019, and the Ali Bund Conference in 2020 are all carbon neutral. Since 2011, the China Green Companies Annual Conference has been carbon neutral for 10 consecutive years. The 2022 World Cup, to be held in Qatar, will also be carbon neutral.   In order to facilitate users to know more about carbon neutrality, Carbonstop has launched the carbon neutrality mini-program. Carbonstop calculates the carbon emission reduction in recovery scenario for flying ants

Date:2020-09

Recently, Carbonstop and Flying Ant worked together to calculate the carbon emission reduction of recycled clothes, used books and home appliances respectively. Flying Ant is a platform that advocates zero abandonment of unused clothes and environmental protection and public welfare disposal of used clothes. The platform adheres to the concept of "environmental protection for the world, public welfare for you". Residents can recycle green beans through the platform, which can be used to donate public welfare projects and exchange environmental benefits. The whole society is encouraged to participate in the action of "idling and zero abandonment". Recently, carbonstop calculates the carbon emissions of flying ants in their main scenes. The conclusion is as follows, after flying ant platform: Used clothing recycling, resulting in a reduction of 5.38KgCO2e/kg Used book recycling, resulting in a reduction of 0.8358KgCO2e/kg Home appliance recycling, the average emission reduction is 13.27kgCO2e/ unit   Used clothes recycling   The fashion industry produces about 10 percent of the world's carbon emissions, while textile production alone is estimated to produce about 1.2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases a year. With the emergence of fast fashion, more and more clothes are produced, selected and then forgotten or even discarded. There are several main ways to dispose of used clothing collected by flying ants: Environmental regeneration: processing for other materials, such as agricultural insulation materials, construction industry sound insulation materials, recycled cloth, etc. Public donation: Clothes that meet the donation standards shall be handed over to public welfare organizations or foundations for cleaning and disinfection and then donated to poor areas or public welfare organizations and individuals. Used clothes export: part of the summer clothes after cleaning and disinfection to the relevant takeout companies exported to Africa, Southeast Asia and some other poor countries. Environment-friendly recycling: the fibers and fabrics made from recycled clothing are only used as environment-friendly bags, storage boxes, gloves, cushions and other products.  The emissions of clothing have a lot to do with the materials they are made from, the process they are made from and the type of clothing they end up in. The same clothing style, color and size, because different clothing materials will have different carbon footprints. Considering that the style of clothing is updated quickly, it is more scientific to estimate the emission proportion of different types of clothing from the proportion of clothing materials, and effective data can be found. In the calculating, according to the National Bureau of Statistics data, and related industry association,we respectively  find the cotton, wool, silk, linen, viscose fiber and polypropylene, polyester, acrylic, nylon these major common material production or consumption of fabric, and considered as a second-hand clothes (donations and export),  open loop recovery (recovery) for different products and closed loop recycling (recycling) for similar products different emissions of the three conditions, as well as fly ants in proportion to the actual recovery to calculate the old clothes recycling the final emission reductions for 5.38 kgCO2e/ kg.   Used book recycling   With the rapid development of electronic devices and e-books, our need for physical books may decline a little. But the disposal of books is still a problem. It is wasteful to throw them away and it is a pity to sell them as paper. The flying ant platform can properly dispose of books. Donation, circulation and sharing library are the first echelon of book disposal, and the remaining invalid books are the way to dispose of ordinary books. Considering the recycling donations, circulating and Shared libraries are reduced emissions of old waste processing stages and emissions of a new book raw material and processing engineering, so paper, ink, water, additives, PS version, glue, plastic, preparing, collecting, writing, design, image editing, proofreading, binding, are taken into account, and the incineration and landfill of paper, the final conclusion is that the carbon emissions can be reduced by 0.8358kgCO2e per used book on average.   Home appliance recycling   The data availability of electrical appliances recycling part is poorer, although there are some standards and requirements, such as recycling waste electric and electronic products and general technical specifications, waste electrical electronic products recycling, waste electrical appliances dismantling pollution control guideline renewable resource productivity, electronic products use value, waste comprehensive utilization of resources evaluation specification of the television, the disassembly steps and evaluation method for product disassembly and, also in the ground to create modern system of data information. However, less effective data can be obtained, and because different types of electrical appliances differ greatly, the actual dismantling process and the amount of dismantled products also vary. In the calculation, four types of electrical appliances are included, air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators, TV. And the main products after dismantling, which is also the main metal materials used in the production stage of home appliances, such as iron, copper, aluminum and other primary materials smelted from the emissions were compared, and the reduction of unit weight of different types of home appliances due to recycling was obtained. Then according to the average weight of different household appliances, the average emission reduction estimate of this category of household appliances is obtained. According to the recycling proportion of different household appliances, the weighted result shows that the emission reduction caused by the effective recycling of the main recyclable part of metals in an average household appliance is 13.27 kgCO2e/unit (refrigerant recycling is not included in this value).
