Carbonstop help the Roots&Shoots Shanghai, showing different living carbon footprint

Date:2020-06

On the eve of Low Carbon Day, Roots&Shoots Shanghai, and Carbonstop officially signed a VIP agreement to use the carbon emission factor database. With the support of the carbon emission factor database, Roots&Shoots Shanghai, vividly displayed the carbon emissions in daily life and quantifies the "low carbon life" which has been known by the public but cannot be demonstrated with data.   July 2 is the eighth National Low Carbon Day.   Nowadays, the problem of global warming is becoming more and more familiar to the public. Greenhouse gases are the main cause of the global greenhouse effect and hence global warming.   The most important greenhouse gas in the atmosphere is carbon dioxide (CO2), which accounts for 66%. In addition to carbon dioxide, there are five major greenhouse gases: methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs) and sulfur hexafluoride (SF6). These five gases are much less concentrated in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide, but their warming effects per unit volume range from tens to tens of thousands of times greater than carbon dioxide.   In fact, different activities in our lives directly or indirectly emit greenhouse gases. Our carbon emissions are different depending on our lifestyle choices.   How different are the results when faced with different choices?     Today we will look at two young people's daily choices... * The unit used to calculate carbon emissions is carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e), which translates the six major greenhouse gases into the same amount per unit volume of carbon dioxide   * The above data and calculation is supported by Carbonstop. Roughly calculated, in one week, Lao Wang's carbon emission level would be about four times that of Xiao Min under these four scenarios! Lao Wang's carbon emissions (320kg) would have required about five poplar trees to offset them (based on the Million Tree Project :one poplar tree absorbing 57kg of carbon dioxide in a decade, please visit the Million Tree Project website for details).   STOP,REDUCE,OFFSET Thesethree words are principles we can follow in our daily lives to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Let's take the travel scenario as an example.   Stop unnecessary carbon footprint Try to avoid the carbon emissions we can during traveling. For example, bring kettles, tableware, cloth bags, dental utensils, etc., to reduce the consumption of disposable items.   Reduce the carbon footprint necessary to occur For the necessary carbon emissions in travel, low-carbon behaviors should be preferred. For example, if there are two ways to travel to a tourist destination, railway travel is preferred. For short trips, choose public transport as far as possible to reduce the use of fuel cars.   Offsetting the carbon footprint that has already occurred From the lives of Xiao Min and Lao Wang, we can see that no matter what actions we take in our daily life, we will inevitably produce more or less carbon emissions. There are steps we can take to offset the carbon footprint that has already occurred. To achieve responsible travel, if you have to use an airplane as a means of travel, you can choose to buy carbon sequestration from the airline to offset your trip, or donate directly to a tree-planting project.   Join the Million Tree Planting Project to fight desertification together   Today, aviation alone accounts for about 2% of global greenhouse gas emissions, and that share is set to grow.   The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) approved a plan in 2016 called the International Aviation Carbon Offset and Emission Reduction Program, which aims to limit new greenhouse gas emissions from the aviation industry by spending about 2 percent of its revenue on reforestation and other mitigation projects after 2020.   In fact, tourism behavior itself has exceeded the basic survival needs of human beings and belongs to a higher level of enjoyment needs. When tourists make this choice, they also bear the responsibility for the environment and climate.   Trust you to make the best environmentally friendly choice.

Carbonstop and CCFA release ‘Let's go, Carbon Detective’

Date:2020-06

‘Let's go, Carbon Detective’ is a mini-program jointly developed by Carbonstop and CCFA. Driven by AI technology, it can scan to identify an item's carbon footprint. At present, mini-program's first batch of partners include Decathlon, Gome, Bianlifeng, Xibei Oat Noodle, and Chaoshifa and so on, covering more than 600 stores across the country.   Become a great Carbon Detective and an environmental protection expert Step1: Scan the code and enter the mini-program. After watching a group of vivid polar bear cartoons, you can start the task of detecting "carbon" together with the "little white" of the polar bear family.   Step2: The task of detecting ‘carbon’ is divided into three parts, including ‘clue’, ‘taking photo for treasure hunt’ and ‘promotion test’. In the tasks of ‘clue’ and ‘taking photo for treasure hunt’, by inputting the names of essential items in daily life, food, clothing, housing and transportation, or taking a photo of the items around you, you can query the carbon emissions generated in the use and consumption of these items (namely the "carbon footprint"). For example, the "carbon footprint" of baijiu is 2kg CO2e/kg, and that of cabbage is 0.1354kg CO2e/kg. At the same time, users will also get carbon emission reduction tips of daily life.   Step3: In the task of ‘promotion test’, the user can be continuously promoted in answering questions, and finally successfully promoted to become a qualified ‘carbon detective’. After completing the customs, users can post the screenshots to their moments and invite more friends to participate in the ‘carbon’ detection. P.S. This mini-program is driven by AI technology and Carbonstop’s carbon emission factor database together. This is the first time Green Consumption Week has used a WeChat mini-program, Through AI identification technology, the carbon footprint and low-carbon knowledge concept of products can be popularized to consumers, so as to improve consumers' cognition of the connection between environmental health, low-carbon consumption behavior and personal life, so that low-carbon consumption and green consumption life will not be far away from consumers. The mini-program is one of the major outputs of the CCFA Account Project, which is supported by the Energy Foundation and developed by the CCFA in collaboration with Carbonstop.   Everyone is contributing to climate change.   Eating a kilo of beef produces 36.4kg of carbon emissions, driving 100km in a gas-guzzling car 41kg, and having an intercontinental flight trip could produce 1.6 tonnes of carbon emissions. This is calculated by a precise formula, and CO2 emissions represent the carbon footprint of related activities. In developed countries, carbon footprint has been widely used. In the past, there has been a lack of public awareness in promoting carbon reduction. A survey conducted by the China Climate Communication Project Center shows that respondents generally believe that the government, media and environmental NGOs should play a bigger role in tackling climate change, rather than the public. As people go through one "hottest summer" after another, suffer floods caused by extreme weather, and share "Arctic heat causes polar bears to lose their homes" in the moment, the tide is turning.   In China, there are also more and more young people begin to join the array of low carbon consumption with ‘low carbon’ as the fashion and trend. Individual can also be a contributor to climate change mitigation. ‘Every man have the power to change the future.’ Achim Steiner, the former executive director of the United Nations Environment Program, once said that in the process of reducing carbon dioxide, this force will subtly change our lives.

New friend of Carbonstop -------NANOxARCH | New way for Sustainable Design

Date:2020-06

Today I would like to introduce a new friend of Carbonstop --- NANOxARCH®. NanoxArch® is China's first social innovation company specializing in the field of sustainable materials design. Its vision of making people and the environment healthier is in line with Carbonstop's long-held vision of connecting people and nature. Carbonstop and NANOxARCH® have recently reached a cooperation intention. Do you know, in the context of sustainability, how can the brand or enterprise be better integrated?   Do you know how to make your product or brand achieve sustainable innovation within the budget?   When your business produces waste, do you know they can be turned into new materials  and applied to products and spaces?   Today is the 606th day of our journey to the vision  of making people and the environment healthier  and also it is the time to introduce myself formally. NANOxARCH® is China's first social innovation company specializing in the field of sustainable materials design.  We enable enterprises to realize the sustainable innovation of ‘brand + consumer + environment’ from the materials. We are not an ‘environmental protection company’, but by maximizing the use value of materials, we make the use of materials close to the natural ecological cycle, so as to help enterprises reduce costs and achieve balanced development of economy, environment and human health. We currently offer the following solutions for enterprises.   01- Better materials What exactly are ‘sustainable materials’? Our understanding tends to that ‘better materials’ are healthier for people and the environment.   Since 2016, NANOxARCH® has been exploring and accumulating high-quality sustainable material products in China.   Currently, we focus on four categories of sustainable materials:   1. Recycled materials 2. Rapid renewable natural materials (growth cycle less than half a year) 3. On-site waste (such as factory waste or overstock) 4. New materials with high cost performance (can replace materials from non-renewable resources) Based on our own database ‘China Sustainable Material Product Database’, as well as the practical experience of sustainable materials application scenarios, we combine the budget of the brand and design requirements to provide customize and supply services of sustainable material.  We also further provide sustainable related consulting and certification for brands in need, to help brands enhance their market influence and trust. 02- Sustainable Product Customization In order to make it easier for companies and brands to better integrate into the concept of sustainable development and circular economy, NANOxARCH® also provides customized sustainable products (such as cultural and creative products, office furniture, combined trash cans, etc.) for companies with product customization and procurement needs. Among them, some products contain environmental impact data such as carbon emission reduction, which helps the brand to reflect its influence digitally. On this basis, we are also willing to cooperate with enterprises or brands, based on the lifecycle sustainable design concept of the product , to tailor new sustainable products that are with brand style and meet the preferences of consumers, so as to help enterprises achieve their CSR goals and further enhance their brand image.   03- Space or art installation The materials used by human beings are actually all derived from nature. We believe that material, as the cornerstone of architectural space, is also the material bond between human and nature, and design is the reflection of human values on the material.   Based on the ultimate mission of creating spaces that are healthier and more resilient for people and the environment, we adhere to the perspective of sustainable material design into the space design process. Together with the Netherlands sustainable space design pioneer Superiuse Studios China (Yuanzao Sustainable) and other space design partners, we are engaging in strategic cooperation in the direction of sustainable material and space design, to create 100% RECYCE/UPCYCLE sustainable space and art installations for enterprises and brands in line with their commercial aesthetics. Currently, we have completed or are building several of the first known spaces of this kind in China, including office space, educational space, interior renovation of commercial complex and community activity center. 04- Build sustainable activities NANOxARCH® can also design sustainable events for corporate clients with cultural operation needs, including recycling workshops which turn their own waste into creative products, sustainable-themed exhibitions, sustainable-affordable product pop-up shops, etc.
