Starbucks Coffee Company was founded in 1971, headquartered in Seattle, Washington, USA. It is committed to ethical procurement and roasting of high-quality Arabica coffee worldwide. With over 32000 stores in 82 markets worldwide, Starbucks is the world's leading professional coffee roaster and retailer.
Starbucks' "Green Road"
With the continuous promotion of the global "dual carbon" goal, the retail industry is also adopting new carbon green and low-carbon models. As an internationally renowned retail brand, Starbucks is also exploring its own "green path".
Recently, Starbucks' greenest store in the country, "Xianglv Workshop," made its debut in Shanghai, aiming to explore new green retail models in all aspects. At the same time, Starbucks China has launched a "Green Store" certification system, planning to open 60 "Green Stores" within the next year, and will gradually promote it to the entire mainland Chinese market.
As a laboratory for Starbucks to explore new models of green retail, "carbon reduction" has become the biggest highlight of the "Green Workshop". By implementing a series of carbon reduction measures in the design, construction, daily operation, and customer experience of its stores, "Xianglv Workshop" will reduce its carbon emissions by about 15% annually compared to ordinary stores of the same size. Faced with 5100 stores nationwide, 15% carbon reduction is not an easy task. Starbucks understands that calculation is the first step in carbon reduction. In order to pursue more scientific and efficient product carbon accounting, Starbucks has chosen Carbonstop as a third-party organization to provide carbon accounting services.
Solutions for carbonstop
As a third-party organization, Carbonstop provides professional product carbon footprint data calculation for "Xianglv Workshop", including the carbon emissions of the "Star Diet" series of food and the "Green Apron" of store employees. Carbonstop adopts the CCloud SaaS platform - the product carbon footprint provides a full lifecycle carbon emission calculation for 15 plant-based dietary foods in the Green Workshop and the "green aprons" on the employees. Based on a database of approximately 150000 carbon emission factors, the CCloud SaaS platform - Product Carbon Footprint - provides customers with scientific, accurate, and convenient calculation of specific carbon footprint and carbon reduction information, and automatically generates reports.
According to calculations, Starbucks' "Star Oat Milk Chocolate Maffen" will reduce carbon emissions by 60g compared to regular animal Maffen, equivalent to planting 0.01 trees, saving 0.1 kWh of electricity or 0.03L of gasoline. And its "green apron" can reduce carbon emissions by over 1kg throughout its entire lifecycle. CCloud SaaS Platform - The product carbon footprint is based on relevant standards such as ISO 14067, PAS 2050, and GHG Protocol, and represents the carbon emissions of products produced or sold by enterprises from the perspective of product lifecycle assessment (LCA). Covering different industries such as food and beverage, textile and clothing, building materials, daily necessities, transportation and communication, education, cultural and entertainment products, and other products (such as electronic products and jewelry), as well as intermediate products at different levels of the supply chain, including materials, chemical products, machinery manufacturing and related industrial products. The main functional overview is as follows:
Carbonstop can lead the digitalization of carbon management, accurately predict low-carbon industry trends, and effectively support Starbucks in making quick decisions in exploring new green retail models, thereby promoting the achievement of its carbon neutrality goals.
