Starbucks recently launched its Mid-Autumn Festival gift boxes. Unlike previous mooncakes, this year's mooncakes come in a "refreshed" packaging -- each box is wrapped in a piece of recycled silk fabric. The packaging material is made of recycled beverage bottles and Starbucks ice cups through a professional recycling process. After the accounting of Carbonstop, each piece of recycled silk packaging, according to its different specifications, the emission reduction is 0.0352KgCO2e (30cm*30cm), 0.1799KgCO2e (70cm*70cm) and 0.3364KgCO2e (100cm*100cm).

In the calculation process, we mainly consider the carbon emission difference between recycled silk scarves and ordinary silk scarves due to different raw materials. The recycled silk scarves come from recycled PET plastic bottles and Starbucks ice cups, and the recycled fiber is obtained from petroleum and processed into polyester fiber. After collecting and accounting related process activity data and emission factors, the final emission reduction of recycled silk scarves is obtained, and the contribution of environmental protection packaging is quantified. If more companies can focus on sustainability and contribute to low carbon, we will be closer to the 1.5 degree target.
